Holiday Wine Selections

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and we all know this means copious amounts of food and drink. One of the best ways to give thanks is to bring a bottle of fine wine to share with family and friends. To make life easier on you, here are a few options that are sure to make you the life of the party this Thanksgiving.

Everyone loves bubbly; especially around the holidays. An excellent aperitif choice would be Champagne Drappier Carte d'Or; a 75% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay, 10% Meunier blended Brut. The Carte d'Or cuvée is the very expression of the Drappier style. With its very high proportion of Pinot Noir, one is almost tasting a Blanc de Noirs. Champagne with a fine aromatic richness, it opens with aromas of stoned fruits such as white vineyard peach. A spicy hint announces a powerful and complex palate. A vinous Champagne of lovely complexity with a characteristic note of quince jelly.

If you are looking for a nice red option, Joseph Drouhin Beaujolais Nouveau offers a well-balanced wine that is enjoyable and fruity with pleasant aromas of black fruit and spices. Winemaker Véronique Boss-Drouhin notes that the Beaujolais Nouveau "offers all the freshness of a primeur wine! According to the vintages, the wine may be fairly round, close to Burgundy style, or firmer. It reveals aromas reminiscent of red fruit, more or less strong, together with a refreshing acidity."

New Winter Brews

Winter is coming and most of our fall beers are almost gone. As we brace for another Maine winter, we have a handful of new seasonal brews coming in that will make the chilly nights a little warmer.

Goose Island Winter Ale logoNew this winter from Goose Island is their Winter Ale. Goose Island Winter Ale is layered with rich, nutty chocolate notes and malty, roasted caramel flavors. This brown ale will give you plenty to contemplate on long winter nights.

Foolproof ReveryAnother new malty option for this winter is Foolproof Brewing Company's Revery. Foolproof put together an insane malt bill for Revery – two row, Maris Otter, Crystal 40, Carafa, roasted barley, chocolate malt, and flaked oats combine to make Revery incredibly smooth and rich while boasting a high alcohol content. A delicate blend of Northern Brewer, Tettnanger, and Hallertau hops round out this masterpiece.

Brooklyn Insulated Dark LagerAnother new addition this winter is Brooklyn's Insulated Dark Lager. German Munich, roasted Carafa, and Pilsner malts create a nimble, racy body, while a helping of American black barley adds just a hint of roast coffee. A light dry hopping of American and German hops pitter-patters across the nose and dives into the dry, warming finish. Try it with dark breads, hearty meats, and sturdy cheddars. If you still feel the chill, just add another layer and enjoy your insulation.

Rogue Santa's Private ReserveFor a red ale, we have Rogue's annual holiday offering, Santa's Private Reserve. Santa's Private Reserve is a variation of the classic Saint Rogue Red, but with double the hops – including hops and barley grown and harvested at Rogue Farms. This double hopped red ale is reddish in color with a roasty, malty flavor and a well-balanced spruce finish. Great as stocking stuffer too...

Employee of the Month

Here at National, we like to acknowledge all of the hard work that our employees put in every single day. As a sign of our appreciation, every month we honor one employee with the coveted "Employee of the Month" based on their work and staff recommendations.

For the month of October, we are proud to announce Marty Shannon, custodian, as October's employee of the month. Marty not only keeps our facility clean and tidy, but also goes above and beyond the call of duty. After his regular shift he has been coming back into work at least three nights a week to work with the night crew. As well, he canceled his vacation to help the night crew because they are short staffed.

We want to thank Marty for his excellence in the work place and his invaluable contributions to our team.
