February 2015

Greetings!

Wow! It has been a crazy couple of weeks here in New England. It seems as though we get another snowstorm every other day. Needless to say, everyone's snow blowers and shovels are getting quite a workout this winter. On a more exciting note, everyone here at National couldn't be more excited about the Patriots bringing home their fourth title. What a game!

Even though winter is showing no signs of letting up, in the beer world, we are already starting to get most of our spring seasonals in house. Be sure to check out some of our new and featured spring products, below. You can also check out the rest of our portfolio by going to our website at www.nat-dist.com and visiting the "Our Products" section.

In an effort to be more eco-friendly and reduce the amount of paper used, we encourage our customers to access our price books and other materials via our Retailer Login page at www.nat-dist.com/retailers.php. If you do not already have a retailer login, simply contact us at orders@nat-dist.com or call Customer Service at 800.482.7495.

As always, we ask that while you're enjoying our products you consume them in a responsible manner. After all, "Responsibility Matters."

Spring Seasonals and New Releases

Despite the recent cold temperatures and snow storms, believe it or not, spring is right around the corner. As we get ready for nicer weather, we have a handful of new seasonal and limited release items now available.

Back again this spring, we have Harpoon's Long Thaw IPA, which blends the spiciness of a Belgian Wit and the American hop character of an IPA. Otter Creek's spring seasonal Citra Mantra is also back after its introduction last year. Citra Mantra is an India Pale Lager that's single-hopped with Citra hops and elevated by a clean fermenting lager yeast that allows the subtle Pilsner, Munich and Vienna malts to lay a crisp, bready foundation.

New this season is Long Trail's Stand Out Pale Ale; classic American pale ale brewed with Equinox hops, which has pronounced herbal and citrus notes.

To commemorate the Lunar New Year (a.k.a. Chinese New Year), Tiger Lager will be having various promotions in our market from February 19 - March 5. Be sure to check our Facebook and Twitter pages for updates regarding the Lunar New Year in your area.

For limited releases, we have Rogue Sriracha Stout; a stout made with the popular Asian hot sauce. If you like it spicy, this one is worth a try. Another limited release stout available is Black Xantus from Humboldt Brewing. It is an Imperial Stout infused with fair-trade, organic coffee from a local roaster, Jobella, and aged for 6 months in a combination of Bourbon, retired Firestone Union and wine barrels.

If you're a wheat beer fan, we have Brooklyn Greenmarket Wheat Beer, which is brewed from 70% New York State-grown wheat and barley. The raw wheat gives this beer its zing, barley malt brings depth, and Belgian yeast lends complexity. It's finished with orange peel, local honey and a dash of coriander accents. Also from Brookyln, we have their 2015 Brewmaster's Reserve Wild Horse Porter. Wild Horse Porter is an English-style porter that was fermented almost primarily with Brettanomyces yeast, then finished with house ale yeast. This is a complex, full-bodied beer with flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, fresh fruit and caramel.

Mr. Robb's European Vacation

Last month, our wine sales manager, Brendan Robb, took a trip to France to explore some of the phenomenal wineries whose wines we distribute. Below is an excerpt from Brendan's travel log.

"Why, it's none other than Serge Férigoule, of course, the man from Lopy, who makes the dark, leathery, garrigue enhanced wines of Sang des Cailloux, in Vacqueras. He may make magic, but he's definitely for real. We tasted through his black fruit potions yesterday en route to Châteauneuf du Pape; and while one cannot but be amazed by the overt combination of power and finesse in the later, I for one was equally impressed by the inner secrets revealed by Monsieur Férigoule. His wines do not promise anything ethereal, mind you. Instead, they make you marvel at how good it is to stay inside your own skin and look outward. Fifteen cases of the Cuvée Azalais comin at you, folks. Braise them lamb shanks, spit roast the viandes, grill the exotic mushrooms and give thanks to this good life we have on earth!"

Employee of the Month

Here at National, we like to acknowledge all of the hard work that our employees put in every single day. As a sign of our appreciation, every month we honor one employee as the "Employee of the Month" based on their work and staff recommendations.

For the month of January, we are proud to announce Chris Plummer, wine selector, as employee of the month. Chris always gives 110% and is a real team player. In fact, in order to help his team out when they were short staffed, Chris canceled his scheduled vacation. That shows dedication and concern for the rest of his coworkers.

Thanks, Chris, for being such a positive example and going above and beyond the call of duty.

Wreaths across America

As a sign of their appreciation for our contributions this past holiday season, Wreaths across America sent us this Certificate of Appreciation. We would like to thank all of the veterans that have served for our country. You are heroes and will never be forgotten.
