Blue Current Brewery, maker of handcrafted sake in Kittery, Maine, is nominated as Small Business Success Story of the year by Seacoast SCORE chapter 185 of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Daniel Ford developed a passion for sake while working in Japan in the financial information technology business between 2005 and 2008. After losing his job in the financial crisis, he decided to turn this passion for sake into a new career. Ford felt certain the pure water and cool weather of coastal Maine, which is similar to Japan, would provide the perfect environment for brewing sake in small batches from natural ingredients. He believes the United States is a huge untapped market for high-quality, domestically produced sake. He explains Blue Current is much more than a beverage to go with sushi. “Think of it as a white wine. It’s like a nice Pinot Grigio, but without the sulfites,” Ford explains.
We are excited to announce that we are now distributing beers by Stoneface Brewing Co. out of Newington, New Hampshire. The name Stoneface is a reference to the The Old Man in the Mountain, and the company's logo features a leafy hop cone with the profile of the famous rock formation. The company's motto, "Live Free, Drink Craft" pays respects to the Granite State's motto, "Live Free or Die."
Stoneface's brewer, Peter Beauregard, began home brewing in his senior year at theUniversity of New Hampshire. He honed his recipes over the years, and in February 2013 he won the IPA category at the Boston Homebrew Competition. In 2014, Beauregard left his software industry job to brew beer full time and has been cranking out stellar brews ever since. In reference to Stoneface's hop-forward concoctions, Beauregard "hopes it's going to be a beer that beer geeks will like and also crossover drinkers or novices to craft beer." The response has been amazing so far with beer ratings in the 90s on ratebeer.com and beeradvocate.com.
Currently, National will have Stoneface's IPA and Porter in stock in kegs and bottles. Their American Pale Ale and American Red Rye Ale will be coming soon. Quantities are limited and subject to out of stock. Please ask your sales rep about availability.
